The Best Home Phones To Suit Your Budget

Alexander Graham Bell may have invented the telephone to help deaf people in America but credit must now be given to all the scientists and technology experts who have brought home phones into the 21st century. The ability to talk to people in far-flung places and think from the clarity of their voice that they are only in the next room was truly remarkable. Anyone setting up home on their own would be forgiven for being totally confused not only by the massive array of phones available but also the companies offering their services and competitive packages.

When watching old movies we can see the first types of home phones where the earpiece was separate from the speaking tube and you needed 2 hands to use one. Then there was the dial, round with the numbers in each finger hole and that lovely sound as you removed your finger and the dial sprung back to its start point. Technology also brought us the trimphone, famous because certain birds could mimic the sound of the ring causing hilarity amongst those who were present when the phone ‘rang’ and there was nobody there!

As technology advanced we were able to know who was calling us if we subscribed to a caller identification service or we could dial and know who was the last person to call us and then, possibly the best of all, a phone you can use anywhere within the home and not attached to a cable. Yes the cordless phone.

It went further than that though, as now we can also have 2, 3 or more handsets, one in each room of the house, making it so much easier to answer that call. However, if you don’t want to answer, or cannot because you are otherwise occupied, the built in answerphone will hold a message, in fact, several messages until you are free to respond.

One could be forgiven for asking if home phones have actually had their day with the advent of mobile phones. Where a family would have one landline, now most members of the family (over a certain age) have a mobile phone each and access to home phones as well. No reason at all for not keeping in touch with loved ones.
